myonic trainer Bernd Koslowski in an interview with the IHK (Chamber of Commerce and Industry)

In the 02/2022 issue of the IHK magazine “Die Wirtschaft zwischen Alb und Bodensee” (The Economy between Alb and Lake Constance), ideas for securing skilled labour in companies from the region are presented. The strategies of myonic, such as the possibility of an additional qualification, bonus payments for good performance and a dedicated tablet for use at vocational school and the company, are also part of this.

“Greater attractiveness through additional qualifications”
“More attention for apprenticeships is also what Bernd Koslowski wants to achieve. He is a trainer at myonic GmbH in Leutkirch and currently supervises 19 apprentices. The company specialises in the manufacture of ball bearings for a wide range of applications. “We try to make training more attractive by offering additional qualifications,” says Koslowski. “We have also introduced a benefit system that gives bonuses for good performance. In parallel, we have modernised the apprenticeship workshop and everyone receives a tablet. That goes down really well.” There are five integrative additional qualifications for metal professions such as mechatronics technician or industrial mechanic. myonic was the first company in the region to register apprentices for the additional qualification “additive manufacturing processes”. This represents “a deepening of the learning content”, Koslowski explains. “In our case, that was the focus on 3D printing. Although we only use this in the production of spare parts for machines, it is particularly fascinating for young people. When participating in an apprenticeship fair, the 3D printer in particular was a huge draw. That’s why we are now using this technology specifically to recruit and inspire apprentices.” He considers dual vocational training to be an effective means of securing skilled workers: “The apprentices get to know the company from the ground up. People know each other and the apprentices have the security of a permanent job after successful completion. However, the opportunities for studying after an apprenticeship should be communicated more intensively to raise the perceived value of apprenticeships. Many prospective students are not aware of the possibilities and career opportunities that come with it.”
